Department of Energy Renames Philadelphia Office.


PHILADELPHIA -- The U.S. Department of Energy has changed the name of its Philadelphia Regional Office to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office to better reflect the geographic area the office serves.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Office is one of six geographic regional offices of the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy The United States Department of Energy´s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) mission is to strengthen America's energy security, environmental quality, and economic vitality in public-private partnerships.  that administers and manages 11 energy efficiency and renewable energy Renewable energy utilizes natural resources such as sunlight, wind, tides and geothermal heat, which are naturally replenished. Renewable energy technologies range from solar power, wind power, and hydroelectricity to biomass and biofuels for transportation.  programs in each geographic area, providing technical assistance and federal funding to the state and local governments, businesses and nonprofits of the region.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Office serves constituent organizations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia West Virginia, E central state of the United States. It is bordered by Pennsylvania and Maryland (N), Virginia (E and S), and Kentucky and, across the Ohio R., Ohio (W). Facts and Figures


Area, 24,181 sq mi (62,629 sq km). Pop.

Effective immediately, the names of the Regional Offices are the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office (formerly Philadelphia Regional Office); Southeast Regional Office (formerly the Atlanta Regional Office); Northeast Regional Office (formerly the Boston Regional Office); Midwest Regional Office (formerly the Chicago Regional Office); Central Regional Office (formerly the Denver Regional Office); and Western Regional Office (formerly the Seattle Regional Office).
