Department of Defense news release (July 12, 2006): DoD awards grants to minority institutions.The Department of Defense announced today plans to award 32 grants totaling $9.5 million to 31 minority institutions. These grants represent the final phase of the fiscal 2006 DoD Historically Black Colleges and Universities Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are institutions of higher education in the United States that were established before 1964 with the intention of serving the African American community. They are often liberal arts colleges or universities. and Minority Institutions Infrastructure Support Program. The grants will enhance programs and capabilities at these institutions in scientific disciplines critical to national security and the DoD. This announcement is the result of merit competition for infrastructure support funding conducted for the Office of Defense Research and Engineering by the Army Research Office and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
