Department of Defense news release (Aug. 10, 2004): flag officer announcements.


Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has made the following nominations:

Navy Rear Adm. Mark P. Fitzgerald Vice Admiral Mark P. Fitzgerald was the Commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet, from 2004 until 2006.

He was born in Winchester, Massachusetts, and graduated from Northeastern University, Boston in June 1973. He was designated a Naval Aviator in October 1975.
 for appointment to the rank of vice admiral ADMIRAL, officer. In some countries is the commander in chief of the naval forces. This office does not exist in the United States.  and assignment as commander, SECOND Fleet, Norfolk, Va. Fitzgerald is currently serving as director, Air Warfare air warfare

Military operations conducted by airplanes, helicopters, or other aircraft against aircraft or targets on the ground and in the water. Air warfare did not become important until World War I (1914–18).

Sestak is currently serving as director, Assessment Division, N81, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
