Department of Defense news release (Jan. 17, 2006): general officer announcements.


Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president made the following nominations:

Marine Brig Brig, town, Switzerland
Brig (brēk), Fr. Brigue, town, Valais canton, S Switzerland, on the Rhône River, at the north entrance of the Simplon Tunnel.
. Gen. James F. Flock has been nominated nom·i·nate  
tr.v. nom·i·nat·ed, nom·i·nat·ing, nom·i·nates
1. To propose by name as a candidate, especially for election.

2. To designate or appoint to an office, responsibility, or honor.
 for appointment to the grade of major general. Flock is currently serving as the assistant deputy commandant (Facilities), Installations and Logistics Department, Headquarters, United States Marine Corps United States Marine Corps (USMC)

Separate military service within the U.S. Department of the Navy (see U.S. Navy), charged with providing marine troops for seizure and defense of advanced bases and with conducting operations on land and in the air in connection with
, Washington, D.C.

Marine Brig. Gen. Edward G. Usher USHER. This word is said to be derived from a huissier, and is the name of an inferior officer in some English courts of law Archb. Pr. 25.  III has been nominated for appointment to the grade of major general. Usher is currently serving as the assistant deputy commandant (Plans), Installations and Logistics Department, Headquarters, United States Marine Corps, Washington, D.C.
