Denver Film Society Announces Departure of Executive Director Scott Rowitz.


DENVER -- The Denver Film Society (DFS (Distributed File System) An enhancement to Windows NT/2000 and 95/98 that allows files scattered across multiple servers to be treated as a single group. With Dfs, a network administrator can build a hierarchical file system that spans the organization's LANs and ) announced today that Scott Rowitz, executive director since 2002, will be leaving the organization later this month to assume the position of director of finance and administration for the California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  Film Institute.

As a part of the DFS leadership team, first as managing director in 2001 and then later as executive director, Rowitz has been instrumental in managing and overseeing the Film Society and Film Festival's operations with accomplishments that include:

* Increasing participation in the organization's events and programs which grew by more than 200% - from 90,000 people in 2000, to 196,000 in 2007.

* Opening the Starz FilmCenter in 2002, offering regular film showings and educational and cultural programming.

* Expanding the number of permanent staff from seven to 13.

* Producing increased revenue now at $2.4 million annually plus significant growth of in-kind support.

* Increasing attendance from 19,500 (in 2000) to 45,000 (in 2007) at the Starz Denver Film Festival, the key showpiece show·piece

A search is underway for a new DFS Executive Director. In the interim, Britta Erickson will continue in her role as director of the Society's film festivals, including the Denver Starz Film Festival and "Cinemocracy," an open source film competition to be held later this year in conjunction with the Democratic National Convention in Denver. DFS Development Director Arpie Chucovich will add interim director of the Starz FilmCenter to her current responsibilities.
