Denman Group contributes to global cooling.

Denman Group announces the recent installation of a new carbon dioxide refrigeration system into Sainsbury's store at Clapham in South London. The C[O.sup.2] dual temperature Cascade refrigeration plant, utilising an R404a cascade cooler, is the first in a supermarket in the UK and incorporates a high temperature pumped secondary C[O.sup.2] circuit and a low temperature direct expansion C[O.sup.2] circuit.

As C[O.sup.2] is a naturally occurring gas, it has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and a Global Warming Impact of only one, meaning this is kinder to the environment than those containing chloroflourocarbons (CFCs) or hydro CFCs. Heat transfer is more efficient compared to conventional systems leading to energy savings, system components are also reduced in size leading to an overall reduction in the installation time as well as in the material cost.

The use of carbon dioxide as a natural refrigerant began in the 1880s and reached its height in the 1920s, but with the introduction of CFCs, C[O.sup.2] use declined, almost to the point of non-existence. But now, with the banning of CFCs, it's back and is a greener option for those who want to protect the environment.
