Dendrite International makes announcement.


MORRISTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--December 19, 1996--Dendrite International, Inc. (NASDAQ/ NMS See NetWare Management System. :DRTE DRTE Defence Research Telecommunications Establishment ), today announced that its revenues for the fourth quarter would be below those reported in Quarter 4, 1995, and that it will make a loss for the period primarily due to certain new business and business expansion commitments anticipated during the quarter not being received, compounded by customer decisions to delay certain implementations and higher than normal R&D expense.

Based on information currently available, Dendrite dendrite: see nervous system; synapse.  expects to report a net loss for the fourth quarter.

The unanticipated fourth quarter events included a major upgrade decision by a significant customer which was delayed and a significant purchase of new licenses expected to have been made by an existing significant customer planning to increase the size of its sales teams already committed to or using the Dendrite system.

Additionally, important roll out implementations of the Dendrite product were delayed by customers. Dendrite and their customers now expect these implementations to occur in the first half of 1997.

During the quarter the company committed to a higher R&D expenditure than was originally planned due to a larger number of new business opportunities.

Additionally, the company is carrying staff specifically hired and trained in advance to service the implementation and roll outs delayed by customers. The company will need these people beginning in the first and second quarters when certain of these delayed projects are now scheduled to recommence Re`com`mence´
