Dendreon Corporation Appoints Andrew R. Scherer Vice President of Manufacturing.

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 2004

Dendreon Corporation (Nasdaq:DNDN) today announced that Andrew R. Scherer has joined the Company as vice president of manufacturing. Scherer joins Dendreon after a distinguished 15-year career at Genentech, Inc. (Nasdaq:DNA DNA: see nucleic acid.

), where he most recently served as vice president of engineering/facilities and chairman of the board of Genentech Espana. At Dendreon, Scherer will be responsible for ongoing clinical manufacturing and the scale up and establishment of commercial manufacturing for Provenge(R) and the Company's other products.

Scherer brings more than 25 years of industry experience in manufacturing, including 5 years at Merck, Inc. prior to joining Genentech. While at Genentech, Scherer was responsible for a broad range of areas key to building and maintaining infrastructure, including protein scale up, supply chain establishment and manufacturing operations Manufacturing operations concern the operation of a facility, as opposed to maintenance, supply and distribution, health, and safety, emergency response, human resources, security, information technology and other infrastructural support organizations. . Scherer also provided guidance as a member of Genentech's product portfolio planning team. Annual sales in 2003 for Genentech products were approximately $2.6 billion, including $1.9 billion in oncology sales.
