, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 2001

Denali Software Denali Software, Inc. is an American software company, based in Palo Alto, California. The company produces electronic design automation (EDA) software and intellectual property (IP) design cores for memory and other standard interfaces. , Inc., a world leader in memory system design and verification, today announced that it has joined MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer. For example, .5 MIPS is 500,000 instructions per second; 100 MIPS is a hundred million instructions per second.  Technologies' (Nasdaq: MIPS, MIPSB) MIPS Alliance Program (MAP) and ported its Databahn technology to the MIPS-based(TM) processor cores and architectures. The MAP program consists of 3rd party vendors who provide complete solutions around MIPS processors. Through the program, designers can leverage Denali's Databahn(TM) configurable memory processor cores with the latest processors and cores based on the MIPS32(TM) and MIPS64(TM) standard architectures. Compatibility with Denali's Databahn memory processor technology ensures that MIPS licensees have access to IP to meet high-bandwidth data requirements between MIPS processors and external memory.

"We're excited about Denali porting their memory processor technology to our platform," said Kevin Meyer, vice president of Marketing, MIPS Technologies (MIPS Technologies, Inc., Mountain View, CA, www.mips.com) Founded in 1984 as MIPS Computer Systems Inc., the company merged with SGI in 1992 and spun off as an independent entity once again in 2000. . "Based on customer input, high-performance memory IP is a valuable asset to the MIPS community."

Ever increasing amounts of data are being transmitted over networks, switched and processed by computing computing - computer  equipment. This along with the widening gap between microprocessor performance and memory performance manifest in the form of a data bandwidth bottleneck A lessening of throughput. It often refers to networks that are overloaded, which is caused by the inability of the hardware and transmission lines to support the traffic. It can also refer to a mismatch inside the computer where slower-speed peripheral buses and devices prevent the CPU  between microprocessors and memory, sometimes referred to as the "Data Starvation starvation, condition in which deprivation of food has forced the body to feed on itself. Causes are famine, fasting, malnutrition, or abnormalities of the mucosal lining of the digestive system.  Crisis." Designers struggle with development and verification of the high-speed memory systems required to keep their microprocessors "fed" with data.

Denali's Databahn configurable memory processor cores address the need for a low-risk solution for developing high-bandwidth memory systems. The combination of Databahn with MIPS processors provides designers with a powerful, low-risk solution for addressing the data bottleneck in high-bandwidth applications.

"Supporting MIPS processors was an easy choice for Denali," said Kevin Silver, VP of Marketing for Denali Software. "Working with MIPS gives our customers the ability to pair high-performance processors with high-performance memory systems. We are pleased to offer this capability to MIPS licensees.

"The MIPS Alliance Program (MAP) provides its members with sales and technical assistance as well as broad marketing support such as Internet and traditional marketing and promotional activities. MAP members are third-party vendors who provide complete solutions around MIPS Technologies processors. MIPS-based processors are found in digital entertainment devices such as set-top boxes The cable TV box that sits on "top" of the TV "set," although it is often located several feet away in an equipment rack. The set-top box descrambles the premium channels and provides a tuner for the higher cable numbers that very old TVs did not support.  and game consoles See video game console. , consumer electronics, office automation machines and communications/networking equipment such as routers and servers."
