Swedish software company Demicron has launched WireFusion, its new visual Java drag-and-drop programming tool for creating advanced and interactive Java applets A Java program that is downloaded from the server and run from the browser. The Java Virtual Machine built into the browser is interpreting the instructions. Contrast with Java application.  and illustrations.

Written entirely in the new Java 2 language, the tool does not require any prior knowledge in programming or Java, allowing users to visually connect preprogrammed objects with different functions.

A special feature is the software's capability to handle multi-layer image-processing and 256-scale alpha channels An 8-bit layer in a graphics file format that is used for expressing translucency (transparency). The extra eight bits per pixel serves as a mask and represents 256 levels of translucency. For example, TIFF and PNG are graphics formats that support the 8-bit alpha channel.  in real time.

WireFusion has been released as a shareware Software on the "honor system." The concept is that users try a product, and if they like it, they voluntarily pay a set registration fee or make a donation to the program's creator. There are tens of thousands of shareware programs; some fantastic, some awful.  version which can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.demicron.com/wirefusion/wf.html.
