SUPERCOMM 2000

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 2000

After the successful launch of Alcatel's OneStream Broadband Access See broadband and wireless broadband.  Server earlier this year, shipments of this next-generation platform have surpassed even the most confident predictions. For the first quarter of 2000 the revenues for Alcatel's Broadband Access Server increased 300% versus the revenues of the fourth quarter 1999.

Based on the total first quarter Broadband Access Server Market report, made by the Synergy Research Group, these results rocket Alcatel to a market share of 8% of the worldwide broadband access server market in the first quarter 2000. Jeremy Duke of the Synergy Research Group said: "Alcatel has made tremendous progress in the broadband access server market in Q1 2000, growing significantly faster than their competitors and the overall market. Given Alcatel's leadership in DSLAMs coupled with the growing momentum we are measuring for the broadband access market, Alcatel's Broadband Access Server is well positioned for continued growth worldwide."

The Alcatel OneStream Broadband Access Server, located in a service provider's network, aggregates traffic from multiple DSLAMs (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers A Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) allows telephone lines to make faster connections to the Internet. It is a network device, located near the customer's location, that connects multiple customer Digital Subscriber Lines (DSLs) to a high-speed Internet ). Its growing popularity among operators is due to its function-rich design, ease of provisioning and lower infrastructure costs. Being the most scalable access server product available on the market, the Alcatel OneStream Broadband Access Server supports tens of thousands of concurrent users of DSL services, combining broadband applications, dial traffic and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol See Internet and TCP/IP.

This next-generation broadband device ? the OneStream Broadband Access Server is the successor of the Alcatel DANA - also solves the problem of linking a service provider's DSLAMs to more than one ISP's (Internet Service Provider's) routers. Welcoming the success of the Alcatel's OneStream Broadband Access Server, Nico Vernieuwe, vice president of Alcatel's carrier data activities said, "Service providers are recognizing that the Alcatel OneStream Broadband Access Server removes the final obstacles to large-scale DSL deployment. This 'PoP in a box' [Point of Presence] has the scalability, value-added features and management tools needed to support mass roll-out of DSL-based network services. For example, the OneStream Broadband Access Server enables subscribers to change their ISPs dynamically and automatically. Without the OneStream Broadband Access Server, a service provider would have to make such alterations manually at the subscriber's premises."

The OneStream Broadband Access Server has also been named Product of the Month for March 2000 by Telecommunications Magazine, which said, "It is fitting that Alcatel should come out with a scalable, feature-rich Broadband Access Server to support the wide-scale deployment of DSL services and cable modem cable modem
