Deltec to introduce two UPS families and LAN management software for Windows, DOS, Novell, OS/2 and UNIX at Fall COMDEX.

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1994--Deltec Electronics Corp. will unveil several new products at COMDEX The former, premier computer trade show in the U.S. Although it grew into an end user event, it was originally created for dealers and distributors (it was the COMputer Dealers EXposition).  that will give network users complete power protection, management and control capabilities across networks, enterprisewide LANs and WANs. In Booth No. L5252, Deltec will demonstrate the unique capabilities of its new:

-- LanSafe III and FailSafe III power management software;

-- The PowerRite EB Series of Uninterruptible Power Systems

(UPSs) that offer virtually unlimited backup time; and

-- PowerWorks RS Series online rack-mount and tower-configured

UPSs.

Deltec's award-winning PowerRite Pro for LANs, as well as its recently introduced $139 PowerRite Plus for standalone PCs and Macintosh systems, will also be on display.

, Windows, Novell NMS See NetWare Management System.  and NetWare, OS/2 and UNIX operating systems work in concert with Deltec's UPSs to give network administrators full control of UPS status and activity across the entire network.

Unique to LanSafe III is its ability to conduct a user-defined sequential and orderly shutdown of all network devices. This feature assures that all work in process is saved prior to shutdown. Other power management software automatically shuts down the server and does not allow for networked transactions to be completed.

Also unique is Deltec's exclusive PowerScope display featured with both FailSafe III and LanSafe III. The PowerScope screen shows real-time power and UPS status data in an easy-to-understand graphical display.

For standalone PCs, FailSafe III will save work in progress, perform an unattended orderly shutdown and tell users all the information needed to effectively monitor AC power conditions.

Originally based on LAN Manager when OS/2 was jointly developed by IBM and Microsoft, starting with LAN Server 3.  and LAN Manager (1) A network operating system from Microsoft that runs as a server application under OS/2. It supports DOS, Windows and OS/2 clients. LAN Manager was superseded by Windows NT Server, and many parts of LAN Manager are used in Windows NT and 2000. See LAN Server.  lists for $99. LanSafe for Novell NMS lists for $149. LanSafe III for UNIX systems is $149 on CD and 3.5-inch diskettes. LanSafe III for UNIX UNIX

For applications needing extended battery backup See UPS.  time during a power blackout, Deltec's new EB PowerRite 1500VA and 2000VA UPSs provides virtually unlimited backup protection. Through the UPSs' external battery system, each battery pack is equipped with its own exclusive internal PowerCharger for fast recharge (90 percent recharge in four hours at full load).

Battery banks can be daisy-chained for unlimited power backup. For example, if four battery banks are used for a 540-watt power load, the PowerRite EB UPS would keep the system up and running for approximately four hours and 40 minutes.

For network applications, the PowerRite EB models include an RS-232 communication port that interfaces with Deltec's LanSafe and FailSafe power monitoring software.

Applications needing true online UPS protection at higher levels, Deltec's new PowerWorks RS Series offers the most compact protection in its power class.

Designed in rack-mount and tower configurations, these new UPSs offer Advanced Battery Management (ABM ABM: see guided missile.

ABM - Asynchronous Balanced Mode
) capabilities that extend the life of the UPSs' internal batteries, give advanced notice of battery service requirements and conduct a fast recharge so the UPS is ready for the next power blackout.

The 2kVA through 6kVA PowerWorks RS UPSs sport user-friendly indicators such as operational status, line conditions, battery capacity, load level and service requirements. The new UPSs also interface with LanSafe III software, as well as offer SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  capabilities.

The introduction of LanSafe/FailSafe III software, PowerRite EB Series and the PowerWorks RS Series online UPSs are a result of Deltec's ongoing commitment to provide users with power protection devices they need for today's critical applications.
