Deltec leads UPS industry with innovative hardware and software products; new online UPS and power management software unveiled at Networld/Interop '95.

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 23, 1995--In its continuing mission to offer LAN administrators full-power protection and control access the LAN, Deltec Electronics Corp. will display during Networld/Interop in booth No. 5947, its new PowerWorks RS series online Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPSs) as well as its new power management software for Windows NT.

For LAN, WAN and minicomputer users needing true online power protection, Deltec's new tower and rack-mount configured PowerWorks UPSs offer more protection features than any other UPS in the industry.

With the smallest footprint in its power class, PowerWorks features Deltec's proprietary Advanced Battery Management (ABM) technology that doubles battery life and provides a 60-day advance notification of battery service. ABM capability is especially important to IT professionals who need to be assured of system reliability and uptime.

Deltec's ABM technology extends battery life through three charging states -- fast, float and rest -- eliminating constant trickle charging that starves the battery's electrolytes causing premature failure. AMB also quickly recharges the battery in three to four hours after a blackout.

This quick recharge time, which is about half the time of other conventional UPSs, is especially beneficial for users in high-power fluctuation environments where multiple blackouts often occur before competitive UPSs have recharged.

Delivering true-online power protection, PowerWorks features dual-conversion technology for absolute frequency control, low-input current distortion and tight power regulation. For file servers, minicomputers and electronic instrumentation in harsh power environments, this feature is critical to maintaining the highest power integrity.

For networked applications, PowerWorks uses the robust UPS Code II protocol for optimum interface with Deltec's new LanSafe III Power Management Software. LanSafe III automatically manages and monitors the exact status of power across the network. Through LanSafe III's management console, users can graphically display the UPS's configuration and power conditions of the protected systems.

Unique to LanSafe III are its sequential and orderly shutdown functions. During an unattended power failure, LanSafe III will shutdown all workstations, bridges, routers and file servers in a user-defined sequential order.

Open-named files and work in process, not previously saved, will automatically be saved to the hard drive and a safe and orderly shutdown will then occur. PowerWorks combined with the optional LanSafe III software will provide Windows, Windows NT, DOS, Novell NetWare, Unix and OS/2 users a complete power protection solution.

For standalone Windows, Windows NT and OS/2 systems, Deltec's FailSafe III software provides power monitoring and orderly shutdown features including automatic detection of power failures, orderly system shutdown and logging of power anomalies.

Specific to AS/400 applications, the RS series offers an optional Remote Power Warning Cable Interface Kit to monitor power and initiate a safe shutdown in the event of a power disaster. Through the UPS's RS-232 communications port and a 25-foot cable that can be connected to a host computer, the entire system operation is monitored.

The contemporary RS series models sport user-friendly front panel controls and indicators that inform the user of AC line condition, battery capacity, load level, configuration bypass mode and battery service requirements. Internationally recognized front panel icons quickly tell users the status of the UPS.

The PowerWorks RS series family consists of four models ranging from 2.1kVA to 6kVA in both tower and rack-mount configurations. Smallest in this power range, the RS series measures 16-inches high by 23-inches deep by 6.8-inches wide for the tower-configured 2.1 and 3.1 kVA models. The 5 and 6kVA models measure slightly larger. For rackmount applications, the 2.1 and 3.1 KVA units fit in a standard 19-inch rack.

All models are auto-sensing 50- and 60-Hz capable. Multiple output voltages for 120 volts and 208 volts or 120 volts and 240 volts for improving utility-load balance are provided as well as a 120-VAC unit in 2.1 and 3.1 KVA models.

List pricing for the PowerWorks RS series begins at $2,525. Extended battery packs for additional battery backup start at $800 and the optional LanSafe III and FailSafe III Power Management Software begins at $99 and $69, respectively.

A comprehensive three-year warranty is provided with the RS series and includes an ``Advance Exchange Program.'' In the unlikely event of a problem with UPS, the customer calls Deltec's toll-free number and a new unit is sent to the user immediately.
