Deltec introduces Trim Rack version of its award-winning PowerRite Pro UPS for network rack installations.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 1995--To address the recent explosion of LANs configured in space-saving racks, Deltec Wednesday introduced its new PowerRite Pro Trim Rack Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPSs), ideal for protecting increasingly popular rack-mounted network components including servers, routers, hubs, and other internetworking devices.

Based on the same technology that won PC Magazine Editors' Choice, the new systems feature a convenient, low-profile rack-mountable design.

Deltec's Trim Rack UPSs come in 600, 1000 and 1500 VA in both 120 and 220 V, 50/60 Hz models. These slim UPSs fit in a standard 19" rack and take up only 5 inches of vertical space. Designed especially for LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  applications, a typical system can back up a server and external storage devices along with several hubs. Minimum back-up times range from seven to 10 minutes at full load, or 20 to 30 minutes with typical partial load. For applications requiring longer back-up times, Deltec offers a slightly larger UPS with extended back-up times of an hour or more.

Different from typical rack mount UPSs, the Trim Rack incorporates Deltec's patented technological breakthrough -- Advanced Battery Management (ABM ABM: see guided missile.

ABM - Asynchronous Balanced Mode
) -- that doubles the life of UPS batteries and provides the user with service warnings before the batteries finally reach the end of their useful life.

Once an alert occurs, the user simply calls Deltec's toll-free number and a new UPS is sent to the customer immediately. The user installs the new UPS at his or her convenience and sends the old unit back to Deltec.

For special applications that require battery replacement on-site rather than at the factory, Deltec's Trim Rack offers Hot Swappable Batteries. This unique feature allows users to safely and easily replace the battery without powering down the connected critical load. Swappable batteries are easily accessible through the Trim Rack's front panel. Replaced batteries are then shipped back to the factory for environmentally safe disposal ensuring power integrity to protected devices and eliminating the hassle of battery disposal for the user.

The Trim Rack is designed with easy-to-read front panel status indicators, audible alarms, RS-232 communications interface, and is fully compatible with Deltec's award-winning LanSafe III power management software for Novell, Windows NT, Unix and other systems. In addition, the Trim Rack offers optional SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  Capabilities with PowerLink II SNMP Adapter. Deltec's PowerLink II is MIB (1) (Management Information Base) The hierarchical database used by the simple network management protocol (SNMP) to describe the particular device being monitored. MIB objects are identified using ASN.1 syntax. See SNMP, RMON, OID and ASN.1.  II compliant, available with both 10Base2 and 10BaseT support, and compatible with both RS-232 and dry contact connections.

LanSafe and FailSafe III work in conjunction with the Trim Rack for complete management and shutdown of all network devices. Unlike competitive systems, the Trim Rack -- in conjunction with LanSafe III -- offers total power management throughout the network. LanSafe III enables sequential orderly shutdown of multiple servers, workstations, and all other intelligent network devices. Competitive systems offer shutdown for servers only.
