Deloris Jordan To Receive Humanitarian Award.


CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 1999--

Public speaker, author, businesswoman and philanthropist Deloris Jordan will receive the 1999 Raoul Wallenberg Raoul Gustav Wallenberg (August 4, 1912 – July 16, 1947?)[1][1][2] was a Swedish humanitarian sent to Budapest, Hungary under diplomatic cover to rescue Jews from the Holocaust.  Humanitarian Award at a gala dinner at the Drake Hotel The following hotels are named the Drake Hotel:

 Medical Center in Jerusalem, the award recognizes Mrs. Jordan's "mother voice" mission of instilling the highest values in children and her tireless national and world-wide effort to carry her message of the importance of strong families.

The mother of five and grandmother of 11, Mrs. Jordan is the author of 'Family First: The Seven Principles of Parenting.' "God has blessed me with a beautiful family, not just one famous son, so I could try to help others and share what I have learned as a parent," said Mrs. Jordan.

Co-chairing the event are Shelley K. Korey; James Goodwin, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and chairman of United Airlines; Marilyn Miglin, president of the Marilyn Miglin, Ltd.; and Lou Weisbach, CEO and chairman of Ha-Lo Industries. United Airlines and Ha-Lo Industries are major sponsors for the evening. Masters of ceremony are Mary Ann Childers Mary Ann Childers has been a reporter and anchor at WBBM-TV in Chicago since 1994. Prior to that, she spent 14 years as an anchor at WLS-TV, where she became the first female to anchor a top-rated 10pm newscast in Chicago.  and Jay Levine. Michael Lerich will provide music for the evening.

Funds raised at the dinner will underwrite a special project in the Raoul Wallenberg Pediatric pediatric /pe·di·at·ric/ (pe?de-at´rik) pertaining to the health of children.

 Day Hospital, the children's outpatient department of Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. It is named in memory of Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish banker who masterminded the largest rescue effort in the history of man. Wallenberg saved nearly 100,000 Hungarian Jews This is a list of Hungarian Jews. There has been a Jewish presence in Hungary since Roman times (bar a brief expulsion during the Black Death). Jews fared particularly well under the Ottoman Empire, and after emancipation in 1867.  - primarily children - during the Holocaust by issuing official-looking documents resembling passports.

To introduce Mrs. Jordan to Shaare Zedek and the significance of the award, United Airlines, Lufthansa Airlines and Ami Travel hosted a familiarization trip to Israel in March. She was greeted at Shaare Zedek by newborn babies wearing tiny red tee-shirts with '23s.'

A meeting with Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert resulted in his agreeing to come to Chicago to officially kick off the dinner. That reception was August 2 at Marilyn Miglin's salon, 45 E Oak. Other distinguished guests included Israel's Consul General to the Midwest Tzipora Rimon, Shaare Zedek's International Board of Governors Chairman Menno Ratzker and Ald. Burton F. Natarus (42nd).

Following the October 24th gala, United and Lufthansa Airlines and Ami Travel will co-sponsor Mrs. Jordan's return to Israel March 5-16, 2000, when she leads a group of family, friends and Shaare Zedek supporters for the dedication of her award.

In addition to her position as honorary chair of the James Jordan Boys and Girls & Family Life Center, Mrs. Jordan serves on the boards of LaRabida Children's Hospital and Research Center, The Jordan Family Institute, Sinai Community Institute, Audrey Hepburn Hollywood for Children Foundation, Foundation for Peace and Stability in Liberia, Inc.; and University of Chapel Hill's School of Social Work. She co-chaired last year's Children's Defense Fund The Children's Defense Fund (CDF) is a national organization that is committed to the social Welfare of children. Founded in 1973, the nonprofit group uses its annual $9 million budget to lobby legislators and to speak out publicly on a broad array of issues on the law, the family, and  event with Ms. Miglin and honorary chairman First Lady Hillary Clinton honoring Marion Wright Edelman.

In June, Mrs. Jordan was presented one of the National Mother's Day Committee's "Outstanding Mother" awards. She received the Unicef Award from Audrey Hepburn and the Black Trumpet Award from Ted Turner.
