Dell Selects DFW Area for Second Texas Location.

Dell (Nasdaq:DELL), the world's leading direct computer systems company, today announced plans to expand its U.S. operations to Fort Worth, Texas, next spring with a 500-person sales and technical support center.

The company has leased a 75,000 square-foot building in the Alliance Gateway Business Park in Fort Worth and plans to occupy and staff the new facility by April 2001.

Dell described Fort Worth's workforce availability, strong economy, attractive quality of life and physical proximity to its existing U.S. locations in Central Texas and Middle Tennessee as factors in selecting the region for its next site expansion.

Additionally, the Dallas/Fort Worth region was named No. 1 on Fortune magazine's "Best Cities for Business" list in 1999, based primarily on the region's growing economy, low cost of living, highly educated work force and proximity to the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.

The Fort Worth location will augment Dell's existing U.S. sales, technical support and manufacturing operations in the Austin, Texas, and Nashville, Tenn., areas.

Dell's Americas business-- which includes sales to consumers, small and medium businesses, large corporations and public institutions -- totaled $20.4 billion in revenue over the last four quarters and represents the equivalent of a company in the top 100 of the Fortune 500.

"Dell continues to add the equivalent of a Fortune 500 company to its Americas business every quarter," said Kevin Rollins, Dell vice chairman. "Fort Worth will complement our existing U.S. locations and give us additional room to grow the fastest growing areas of our Americas business in the future." Company officials anticipate that its Fort Worth employment could expand to 1,000 by spring 2002.

Over the last two years, the company has established new locations in Middle Tennessee; Eldorado do Sul, Brazil; and Xiamen, China; and seven new manufacturing facilities worldwide to support geographic and market demand for its Internet-related products and services. In the United States, in addition to its Fort Worth plans, this year Dell has added one million square feet of space, or three buildings, to its Central Texas operation and 660,000 square feet, or two facilities, to its Middle Tennessee operation.
