"The combination of Dell's lower cost business model and component price reductions enables us to deliver savings directly to our customers, while providing high-performance Adj. 1. high-performance - modified to give superior performance; "a high-performance car"

, industry-standard enterprise systems that meet our customers' unique and diverse client/server needs," said Joe Marengi, senior vice president, Dell Relationship Group.

The price cuts are due to the efficiencies gained through the company's direct business model and its build-to-customer-order structure, which allows for integration of hardware and software into its client/server systems on the factory floor, helping the company reduce its inventory to seven days in the most recent quarter. That inventory flexibility, combined with Dell's direct customer relationships, permits the company to implement component cost reductions and pass along those savings faster than most of its competitors.
