Dell Reduces Prices Again On OptiPlex Corporate Desktops; Direct Model's Low Inventory and Operational Efficiencies Help Drive Price Leadership.

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1998--Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL), the world's leading direct computer systems company, today announced price reductions up to 11 percent across its OptiPlex(R) desktop PC line.

Today's price cuts come as a result of component cost reductions and direct model efficiencies gained through growth in Internet sales and online technical support delivery. These efficiencies helped Dell significantly reduce operating expenses Operating expenses

across the OptiPlex line by 13 percent over the last year.

Dell has consistently cut OptiPlex prices an average of once each month in 1998, maintaining a price leadership position among the major corporate and institutional desktop PC vendors.

"While our competitors try to duplicate our direct model, we are taking it to the next level," said Joe Marengi, senior vice president and general manager of Dell's Relationship Group. "The customer is the ultimate beneficiary. Our direct business model allows us to give our customers what they want, when they want it, at a great price."

OptiPlex desktop PCs incorporate industry-standard technologies in a stable platform for business and institutional customers who require manageability, reliability and performance in their networked environments. In industry analyst ZD Market Intelligence's recent Projected Market Monitor report, Dell ranked as the leading PC provider to U.S. businesses with more than 500 employees during the third quarter of this year with a market share of 29.8 percent.
