(TM) M70, a system powerful enough for the most design-intensive projects and mobile enough to go wherever the job requires.

Dell's expanded mobile workstation line also now includes the Dell Precision M20, starting at 4.88 pounds(b), that allows customers to reliably run workstation applications for such tasks as design review, demonstration and training.

Powered by Intel's Pentium(R) M processors and 915PM chipset, the Dell Precision M70 and M20 integrate advances in mobile computing Using a computing device while in transit. Mobile computing implies wireless transmission, but wireless transmission does not necessarily imply mobile computing. Fixed wireless applications use satellites, radio systems and lasers to transmit between permanent objects such as buildings  that help increase processor and graphics performance. The M70 includes a new, powerful 256MB graphics solution that allows customers to manipulate large, complex visual models in sharp detail.

"Customers will appreciate the freedom provided by new technologies in the Dell Precision M70 and M20 to un-tether from their desktop without compromising the power to handle advanced technical applications," said Paul Gottsegen, vice president, Dell Product Group. "We've tailored these best-in-class workstation solutions for customers who require the mobility to visit job sites, work from home or travel frequently."

The M70 and M20 include DDR (Double Data Rate) Refers to an SDRAM memory chip that increases performance by doubling the effective data rate of the frontside bus. For more details, see SDRAM.

PCIe is a new, industry-standard bus architecture for more powerful graphics and fast connections to peripherals like hard drives and DVD/CD burners. The new technologies give customers more power to run high-end workstation applications, such as video editing See nonlinear video editing and video editor. , 3D design or CAD models, virtually anywhere.

Exceptional Performance, Notebook Mobility

The Dell Precision M70, starting at 6.69 pounds(c), allows customers to easily carry the power of a typical desktop workstation. Professionals can create, design and analyze large, complex 3D models and datasets in the field, on the road or at the office. Additionally, Dell has updated the M70 design by decreasing its weight and dimensions and adding a unique LCD cover that distinctly identifies the system as a Dell Precision. It features the NVIDIA(R) Quadro(R) FX Go1400 256MB PCIe graphics card and 15.4-inch wide-aspect UltraSharp(TM) high resolution display.

Exceptional Mobility, Workstation Performance

The new Dell Precision M20 marks an expansion to Dell's mobile workstation line and delivers the mobility of a mainstream notebook. The system, starting at 4.88 pounds(b), includes Independent Software Vendor (ISV (Independent Software Vendor) A person or company that develops software. It implies an organization that specializes in software only and is not part of a computer systems or hardware manufacturer. ) certifications and OpenGL graphics that assure customers their applications will run with accurate visual detail.

Worry-Free Operation

Dell has an extensive list of ISV certifications from key providers of CAD, CAE (1) (Computer-Aided Engineering) Software that analyzes designs which have been created in the computer or that have been created elsewhere and entered into the computer. , DCC (1) (Direct Cable Connection) A Windows 95/98 feature that allows PCs to be cabled together for data transfer. DCC actually sets up a network connection between the two machines. , GIS and other applications. Customers can be assured that their business-critical applications will run on Dell Precision workstations. In the event of any issues, the Dell certification team engages the application vendor to ensure a quick resolution. Dell Precision customers also receive dedicated support from experts versed in workstation technologies and applications.

Technical Specifications for the Dell Precision M70 and M20:

--Intel Pentium M A family of CPUs from Intel that are part of its Centrino brand for mobile computing. Introduced in 2003 at speeds up to 1.6 GHz, it was formerly code named "Banias." Introduced in 2004, the second-generation Pentium M (code named "Dothan") uses the same chip package but is built with 90  processors

--Up to 2GB of DDR2 533MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  dual channel memory
