Dell Boosts Corporate Notebook Performance, Functionality and Storage; Latitude Notebooks Now Offer More Memory and Module Bay Options, Planning DVD Availability for Q1.


ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 1998--Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL), the world's leading direct computer systems company, today announced availability of new options -- including capability for up to 256MB of RAM, an LS-120 device for removable mass storage, and up to 12.8GB of hard disk drive space -- to increase the performance and functionality of its Latitude(R) corporate notebook computers. Dell also expects to offer DVD-ROM DVD-ROM: see digital versatile disc.

Dell also announced the availability of Imation's LS-120 SuperDisk(tm) as a modular bay option on Latitude CP and CPi models. It provides 120MB of removable mass storage -- equal to 83 regular floppy diskettes -- in a convenient 3.5-inch-diskette drive form factor. This device helps free up hard drive space and makes it simple to transport large files -- presentations, video, digitized photos, detailed graphics or database information -- between compatibly equipped PCs.

The LS-120 drive also doubles as a conventional 3.5-inch floppy drive, providing extra flexibility, functionality and compatibility. Available immediately for $199, the drive comes with one 120MB diskette The official name for the floppy disk. See floppy disk.

Another modular bay storage option for Latitude CP and CPi models is a second 6.4GB hard disk drive. Combined with an internal 6.4GB hard drive, Latitude offers users up to 12.8MB of internal storage. Priced at $499, this second hard drive is a bootable device, allowing numerous options for data security and backup, or for running multiple operating systems.
