Responding to demand from small and medium business customers for reliable networking products at affordable prices, Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) today introduced its line of PowerConnect network switches.

This family of local area network (LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. ) switches offers U.S. customers outstanding performance and reliability with prices as low as $10 per port.(a)

A network switch connects a LAN, sending information directly to the computer for which it is intended without broadcasting it to all systems on the network. Customers can now conveniently buy Dell networking gear along with Dell servers, desktops, notebooks and storage products.

The PowerConnect family of switches is ideal for small and medium businesses connecting client workgroups See workgroup, workgroup-based network and Windows for Workgroups.  to servers or establishing LANs in branch offices.

Products in the PowerConnect line are as follows:
-- PowerConnect 5012 is a managed all-Gigabit switch featuring 10 Gigabit
Ethernet copper ports plus 2 Gigabit interface converter (GBIC) slots,
providing flexibility between copper and fiber cabling. It supports several
advanced switching features such as virtual LAN and Class-of-Service and can be
managed via a Web browser, console or simple network management protocol
(SNMP). PowerConnect 5012 is priced at $1,299.

-- PowerConnect 3024 is a managed workgroup switch providing 24 Fast Ethernet
ports and 2 Gigabit Ethernet copper ports. It also has 2 GBIC slots, supports
stacking using built-in Gigabit stacking ports and provides various advanced
switching features. The PowerConnect 3024 can be managed via a Web browser,
console or SNMP and is priced at $699.

-- PowerConnect 2024 and PowerConnect 2016 are unmanaged switches providing
easy and affordable Fast Ethernet connectivity for growing businesses. The
24-port PowerConnect 2024 and the 16-port PowerConnect 2016 are priced at $239
and $169, respectively.
