By consolidating the technology purchases of each of the university's schools and departments, UM will leverage its purchasing and create a consistent technology platform across campus. The university has worked with Dell to streamline its procurement of both Intel-based client and enterprise systems across campus.

UM works to provide its students and faculty with the latest technology. About 95 percent of its outdoor areas and 60 percent of UM's buildings on campus are wireless-enabled, and nearly 4,000 students have set up free wireless accounts through the school.

"Supporting more than 15,000 students and 9,400 faculty and staff requires that we integrate technology as efficiently as possible," said M. Lewis Temares, vice president of Information Technology and dean of the College of Engineering at UM.
