Dell, Chicago Public Schools Expand Dell TechKnow to 400 Students over Next Two Years; 177 Chicago Students Earn Home Computers to Date.

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 2004

Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) and Chicago Public School officials announced an extension of the Dell TechKnow program to 400 more students through the 2005-2006 school year.

 Kevin Rollins made the announcement today at Stockton Elementary School elementary school: see school. , where 15 Stockton students earned a free Dell(tm) desktop computer for completing the program. The program has been in CPS since 2002 with 177 students completing the program to date.

"Technology can propel learning, communications and management to generate concrete results to provide our students with a competitive advantage and a sense of all that is possible," Runcie said. "The Dell TechKnow program is one example of how CPS is working toward providing equitable technology access to all."

The Dell TechKnow program is a 40-hour after-school curriculum that is a collaborative partnership between Dell and the CPS Office of After School and Community Programs. Underserved students who participate have an opportunity to earn a home computer and learn technology skills that promote self-esteem and academic success.

Some portions are served by the Lake Ridge Schools Corporation.
, Farren, Washington and Stockton where 38 students completed the program this semester. Dell and CPS provide each middle school that participates with teacher training, curriculum, computers and administrative funding. Additional support for the program in Chicago comes from PEMCO PEMCO Precision Engineering and Manufacturing Company (Pascagoula, Mississippi , a local computer refurbishing company.
