Dell, Capital Area Food Bank Make 150-Ton Dent on Hunger in Central Texas.

Three-Week Food Drive Nets Approximately 300,000 Pounds Of Non-Perishable Goods, Turkeys; America's Second Harvest Names Dell National Group Volunteer of the Year

Dell's annual food drive culminated today with the donation of more than 200,000 pounds of non-perishable foods and 8,400 turkeys for distribution by the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB).

The food, along with more than 1,500 volunteer hours by Dell employees, helped earn the company the Group Volunteer of the Year Award from America's Second Harvest--The Nation's Food Bank Network, the nation's largest hunger relief organization and counts CAFB as a member of its network.

"We are committed to improving the quality of life here in Central Texas and around the world," said Paul McKinnon, Dell's senior vice president of human resources. "Our long-standing relationship with the Capital Area Food Bank is one of many ways we try to give back to the communities we call home."

This food drive is part of Dell's global community involvement program, a worldwide effort to make a positive impact in the communities in which Dell employees work and live. More than 17,000 employees in 28 countries have volunteered time with 275 charities this year.

"Dell continues to raise the bar for corporate and employee community involvement," says Michael Guerra, deputy executive director of CAFB. "Dell's participation is more than just giving. It's a commitment to the mission."

Food banks across the nation depend on millions of volunteers who donate on average 40 hours per year. Without the support of these volunteers, CAFB would not be able to achieve its goals. This award was created to recognize outstanding volunteer efforts, and the winner was chosen from nominations by food banks across the nation.
