RoadRelay is marketed through Cadec Systems Inc., a Cummins Information Systems company. RoadRelay will connect with HighwayMaster's cellular system, giving truck drivers the ability to communicate critical and timely engine data in real-time.

RoadRelay reads, records, and relays real-time trip data, diagnostic information and instantaneous fuel economy to drivers through an in-cab display. An interface jointly developed by Cadec of Londonderry, N.H., and HighwayMaster of Dallas, delivers real-time data Real-time data denotes information that is delivered immediately after collection. "The capability to receive data about fuel use, speed, and other performance factors without waiting to download at the end of a trip offers great potential in improving fleet productivity and efficiencies," said Tom Prestileo, manager-field services at Rollins Logistics Inc.

"The interface system has proven in our test to be a valuable tool, especially as we look for ways to enhance data for fuel tax reporting."

The RoadRelay system combined with HighwayMaster's mobile communications system In telecommunication, a communications system is a collection of individual communications networks, transmission systems, relay stations, tributary stations, and data terminal equipment (DTE) usually capable of interconnection and interoperation to form an integrated whole.  provides the capability to collect and track virtually unlimited data anytime from anywhere in the country, including mpg, engine fault code data to quickly locate and identify engine problems, elapsed e·lapse

The successful test of the system over the past few months involved 20 Rollins DCS trucks. Evaluation is now under way for possible roll-out of the system for the additional portions of the Rollins dedicated-carriage fleet. Rollins DCS is one of two dedicated-carriage subsidiaries of Rollins Logistics Inc., which is headquartered in Wilmington.

Rollins has provided dedicated distribution systems since 1984 and offers design analysis, equipment, drivers, management, insurance, and administrative support for companies that seek to maintain the advantage of a private fleet without the direct responsibilities for day-to-day operation.

The creation of Rollins Logistics Inc. earlier this year was designed to more fully involve Rollins in third-party logistics A third-party logistics provider (abbreviated 3PL) is a firm that provides outsourced or "third party" logistics services to companies for part, or sometimes all of their supply chain management function.  and allow the company to serve as a partner with customers in the entire chain of materials movement, including inbound, outbound, cross-dock, or within warehouse facilities.

Recently added services include freight management, detailed distribution analysis, third-party backhauls, and inventory control. On-site logistics management Logistics Management is that part of Supply Chain Management that plans, implements, and controls the efficient, effective, forward, and reverse flow and storage of goods, services, and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet  at customer facilities also will be offered. Rollins Truck Leasing Corp., the parent company, also is headquartered in Wilmington.
