Delivering real-time data on the road: Rollins DCS becomes first carrier to completely test RoadRelay and HighwayMaster data system.WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 28, 1995--As a critical initial step in pursuing paperless fuel tax data, Rollins Dedicated Carriage Services Inc. (DCS (1) See also DSC. (2) Digital Cross-connect System) A network switching and grooming device used by telecom carriers. RoadRelay is marketed through Cadec Systems Inc., a Cummins Information Systems company. RoadRelay will connect with HighwayMaster's cellular system, giving truck drivers the ability to communicate critical and timely engine data in real-time. RoadRelay reads, records, and relays real-time trip data, diagnostic information and instantaneous fuel economy to drivers through an in-cab display. An interface jointly developed by Cadec of Londonderry, N.H., and HighwayMaster of Dallas, delivers real-time data Real-time data denotes information that is delivered immediately after collection. There is no delay in the timeliness of the information provided. Some uses of this term confuse it with the term dynamic data. both to drivers and dispatch for instant evaluation. "The capability to receive data about fuel use, speed, and other performance factors without waiting to download at the end of a trip offers great potential in improving fleet productivity and efficiencies," said Tom Prestileo, manager-field services at Rollins Logistics Inc. "The interface system has proven in our test to be a valuable tool, especially as we look for ways to enhance data for fuel tax reporting." The RoadRelay system combined with HighwayMaster's mobile communications system In telecommunication, a communications system is a collection of individual communications networks, transmission systems, relay stations, tributary stations, and data terminal equipment (DTE) usually capable of interconnection and interoperation to form an integrated whole. provides the capability to collect and track virtually unlimited data anytime from anywhere in the country, including mpg, engine fault code data to quickly locate and identify engine problems, elapsed e·lapse intr.v. e·lapsed, e·laps·ing, e·laps·es To slip by; pass: Weeks elapsed before we could start renovating. n. idle and PTO PTO abbr. 1.
