Delius: Florida Suite The Florida Suite by English composer Frederick Delius is one of the most beautiful works of the nineteenth century, and shows a freshness and beauty that only Delius could conceive, displaying a vast array of wonderful orchestral imagery, excellent harmonic qualities, and overall ; Koanga; Over the Hills and Far Away; Idylle Printemps; La Quadroone; Scherzo scherzo (skĕr`tsō) [Ital.,=joke], in music, term denoting various types of composition, primarily one that is lively and presents surprises in the rhythmic or melodic material. . Of course, this may have something to do with the sound, too, the new digital effort being warmer and fuller but less well defined. Perhaps no one will duplicate the authority that Beecham brought to works he had championed most of this life, but I doubt that many listeners will be disappointed with this new Naxos release, especially if it forms a part of a more complete package of Delius's pastoral meanders.
