Tourism officials say visitors to the North East have risen by six percent during the past year.

And development agency One NorthEast has revealed there are more inquiries from Dutch visitors about Hadrian's Wall Hadrian's Wall, ancient Roman wall, 73.5 mi (118.3 km) long, across the narrow part of the island of Great Britain from Wallsend on the Tyne River to Bowness at the head of Solway Firth. It was mainly built from c.A.D.  than any other UK attraction.

One Dutch couple, Rob and Toos Drupsteen have fallen in love with North East England North-East England is one of the nine official regions of England and comprises the combined area of Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne and Wear and a small part of North Yorkshire.  after they won an exclusive trip to the region at a tourist fair earlier this year.

The couple say they are already planning their return visit.

 Robinson, head of marketing at One NorthEast said the region was proving increasingly popular as a place to stay for short breaks.

She said: "North East England is an attractive destination, particularly for visitors from the Netherlands who are able to come for the weekend and still see the whole region."
