Delicious feast but please turn up the heat!IT was a rare treat - and one that my friend Jo and I couldn't wait for. We were heading for a Thai meal at one of our favourite restaurants, Thai Orchid. The venue has been in the city centre for a number of years now and boasts an authentic interior dripping dripping 1. continuous discharge of an exudate or secretion. 2. rendered beef fat. with beautiful wooden carvings. Thailand is known as the land of smiles, and it's certainly the traditional welcome you receive when you arrive at this restaurant. The serving staff are dressed in elaborate and traditional dress and tend to you straight away. They are also extremely helpful when it comes to explaining all the dishes. Jo and I were both hungry after a day at work. We decided to skip starters and delve in straight to the main meal. We were vying vy·ing v. Present participle of vie. vying vie for a Thai green curry, having had the dish at the venue before, but I won the fight. After all, I was the one reviewing the restaurant. This dish is known as Kaeng Kiew Wan Gai (pounds 9.95) on the menu. You can also have it with prawns or beef and there are small Thai aubergines, bamboo bamboo, plant of the family Gramineae (grass family), chiefly of warm or tropical regions, where it is sometimes an extremely important component of the vegetation. It is most abundant in the monsoon area of E Asia. shoots and fresh herbs piled into the curry. The chicken is served up in a chicken-shaped bowl, which is a nice little touch. The pieces of meat were delicious but I thought the curry sauce Noun 1. curry sauce - allemande sauce with curry powder and coconut milk instead of stock sauce - flavorful relish or dressing or topping served as an accompaniment to food lacked the punch it normally had. I like steam to be coming out of my ears when it comes to Thai green curry. Sadly, that wasn't happening with this one. In fact, there was no need to down the jug of water on the table. That said, there were plenty of vegetables in the curry, another plus point when it comes to the dish. I went for sticky rice (pounds 3.25) which is quite a small portion, to accompany the dish. Jo also opted for sticky rice as an accompaniment, but she eventually decided on Moo Yang (pounds 9.95), which is marinated pork grilled over charcoal, sliced and served on a siz-zlindish with curry sauce. My friend thought the dish was divine, with lovely tender pieces of pork. And the curry sauce was more flavoursome adj. 1. same as flavorful. Adj. 1. flavoursome - full of flavor flavorful, flavorous, flavorsome, flavourful, flavourous, sapid, saporous tasty - pleasing to the sense of taste; "a tasty morsel" than my Thai green curry. I was slightly jealous of Jo's choice, but I wasn't going to tell her. Let's just hope she's not reading this review. The bill, including tip, came to pounds 30.
