Right now, Cheryl and her bakers are in full Passover mode, making sure they have plenty of matso brownies, sponge cake, lemon cake and macaroons - plain and chocolate - to tide everyone through the holiday. Of course, they offer a variety of other Jewish foods all year round, such as kugel ku·gel n. A baked pudding of noodles or potatoes, eggs, and seasonings, traditionally eaten by Jews on the Sabbath. [Yiddish kugel, ball (from its puffed-up shape), from Middle High German. (noodle pudding), knish knish n. A piece of dough stuffed with potato, meat, or cheese and baked or fried. "It's one of our most popular things," employee Colleen Scott says. "On Fridays we're just swamped - we probably sell about 50 loaves" for use during the Jewish Sabbath, or Shabbat, which begins Friday evenings. Philosophy: Simple surroundings and simple food in a neighborhood atmosphere where many of the customers are regulars. On a recent midweek afternoon, the place was full of parents with toddlers, grandparents grandparents npl → abuelos mpl grandparents grand npl → grands-parents mpl grandparents grand npl with grandkids, and baby boomers See generation X. as well as elderly couples. Entrees: Breakfast offerings include a roll with eggs and cheese or meat; a roll or bialy with lox and cream cheese or lox, onion and egg; or just plain toast. The lunch menu features build-your-own sandwich choices and homemade soups. Specialties: Under that heading, the menu lists rice pudding rice pudding n → arroz m con leche rice pudding rice n → riz m au lait rice pudding rice n → , kugel, kosher and Polish dogs, quiche quiche n. A rich unsweetened custard pie, often containing ingredients such as vegetables, cheese, or seafood. [French, from German dialectal Küche, diminutive of German Kuchen, cake , knish, veggie or egg salad bialy and several grilled sandwiches. Price Range: Breakfast items run from 75 cents (toast) to $4.95 for the bialy or roll with lox, onion and egg. Sandwiches cost $5.50 whole or $3.75 for a half. Soup and bread cost $3.25. Baked goods vary. Decor: "Oh, let's not talk about that," Cheryl Siegel protests. "Some people take months to get a restaurant ready, but Barry takes pride in getting a place, doing all the work himself and opening it in a week." The Southtowne location at 2508 Oak St. has clean white walls hung with artwork and photographs. It's a typical deli setup, where customers walk their appetites past glass display cases filled with food before ordering at the counter. Capacity: About 40. Serving Hours: At Southtowne - 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Near the University of Oregon campus The University of Oregon campus in Eugene, Oregon has around 80 buildings and facilities, including athletics sites such as Hayward Field, which is the site for the 2008 Olympic Track and Field Trials, and McArthur Court, and off-campus sites such as nearby Autzen Stadium and the - 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Opened: The original Barry's opened in 1997 at 29th and Willamette streets and just celebrated its first anniversary at the 28th and Oak location.
