Prisma 27(1): 61-74.

The Bukat and the Punan are hunters and gatherers who live in the headwaters of the Mendalam, Bungan, and Kapuas Rivers The Kapuas River (Indonesian: Sungai Kapuas) is located in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. At approximately 1,143 km, it is the longest river in Indonesia, and is the major river of the western portion of Borneo. It is also the world's longest river on an island.  in the kabupaten Kapuas Hulu Kapuas Hulu (Upper Kapuas River) is a regency (kabupaten) of West Kalimantan, Indonesia. The region is the home to a diversity of indigenous groups, including the Iban and the Silat.  in West Kalimantan West Kalimantan (Indonesian: Kalimantan Barat often abbreviated to Kalbar) is a province of Indonesia. It is one of four Indonesian provinces in Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo. Its capital city Pontianak is located right on the Equator line. . This is largely attributed to the fact that the children are not particularly interested. The problem facing these people is not confined con·fine

The word now designates any cluster of islands. . Large timber companies, both legal and illegal, have moved in with the backing of outside capital and are destroying their habitat and sources of income. Taking account of the social structure of the people and the way they organize their lives, the author proposes a step-by-step plan which will enable them to continue their lives, yet put them in a position to resist some of the pressures emanating from the world beyond their own group (Rosemary Robson-McKillop).
