Degussa AG, Dusseldorf, Germany, will acquire a majority share (51%) in the Turkish silica joint venture Egesil in Adapazari near Izmit.


Degussa AG, Dusseldorf, Germany Germany (jûr`mənē), Ger. Deutschland, officially Federal Republic of Germany, republic (2005 est. pop. 82,431,000), 137,699 sq mi (356,733 sq km). , will acquire a majority share (51%) in the Turkish silica silica or silicon dioxide, chemical compound, SiO2. It is insoluble in water, slightly soluble in alkalies, and soluble in dilute hydrofluoric acid. Pure silica is colorless to white.  joint venture Egesil in Adapazari Adapazari (ädä'päzär`ə), city (1990 pop. 174,400), capital of Adapazari prov., NW Turkey, on the Sakarya River. It is the trade center for an agricultural region producing tobacco, sugar beets, and grains.  near Izmit. Egesil produces high quality tire silica and was established by the owners of Ege Kimya AS.
