With deployments on the rise, family readiness -- the ability for service members and family members to work together to get ready for deployments, provide support for families during deployments and prepare for service member returns -- has become an increasingly important priority for all branches of the military. FSCs, bases and military commanders can use FIRST to gather information about specific needs of specific locations, and make adjustments to Air Force program services and priorities in real time based on real needs.

"The FIRST system will reduce resource costs, enhance FSC support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services , reflect real-time accountability at all levels and allow FSC Flight Chiefs to tailor programs to meet the needs of our customers," said Reed Siems, DefenseWeb's Air Force program manager. "FIRST is truly a transformational way of helping the Air Force meet its family readiness mission."

DefenseWeb built the application using Xtendable(TM) Server, its internal, standards-based software development and delivery platform, to provide field managers and Air Force headquarters staff members the ability to integrate, track and collaborate on data from any and all Air Force FSC installations faster and for less cost.

"Our '360-degree' development approach incorporates input from all organizational elements -- from headquarters requirements to MAJCOM MAJCOM Major Command (USAF)  needs to base-level customization," said Douglas Burke Douglas "Doug" Burke (born March 30, 1957) is a former water polo player who won a silver medal for the United States at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. The Air Force conducted a five-month field test program of FIRST at 29 FSCs, including Guard and Reserve components. The system will be utilized in FSC installations worldwide by the fall of 2004. DefenseWeb's commitment to the Air Force and FIRST also includes continual development and updates to the system, ensuring the application maintains the highest levels of readiness and retention data gathering and reporting capabilities to meet the military service's current and future needs.
