Deere named in Alabama discrimination suit.

Deere named in Alabama discrimination suit--Deere & Company has been named in a legal suit claiming racial discrimination. The suit was filed by Kenny Edwards, a thirty-year career African-American retiree from John Deem, who attempted to purchase two John Deem dealerships in Alabama, Tractor and Turf in Bessemer and Skyland Equipment Company in Tuscaloosa Tuscaloosa (təskəl`sə), city (1990 pop. 77,759), seat of Tuscaloosa co., W central Ala., on the Black Warrior River; inc. 1819. It is a transportation and manufacturing center, with industries centered on the region's coal, iron, cotton, and timber.. Edwards, who was the Director of Golf and Turf Sales Worldwide at the time of his retirement, claims that John Deere has refused to sell him the dealerships by placing terms and conditions for financing that are "onerous, arbitrary, capricious capricious adv., adj. unpredictable and subject to whim, often used to refer to judges and judicial decisions which do not follow the law, logic or proper trial procedure. A semi-polite way of saying a judge is inconsistent or erratic. and discriminatory."

In addition to the personal damages sought by Edwards, the lawsuit is expanded to challenge Deere & Company to maintain diversity on its Board of Directors, increase diversity in upper and mid-level management, and increase the number of African-American dealerships and agencies throughout its system.
