But maybe Bogart said it best in The Maltese Falcon when asked about the Black Bird: "The stuff that dreams are made of." The combination of pianist Aldo Ciccolini's light, delicate playing and EMI's ultra-smooth sound produces a vision of velvety vel·vet·y adj. vel·vet·i·er, vel·vet·i·est 1. Suggestive of the texture of velvet; soft and smooth: velvety skin. 2. sweetness that meets the fictional goal of any author's dreams. This selection of some of Debussy's most tranquil piano music includes such favorites as "Pagodes," "Reverie," "La fille aux cheveux de lin," "La cathedrale engloutie," "Clair de lune clair de lune n. 1. A pale, grayish-blue glaze applied to various kinds of Chinese porcelain. 2. The color of such a glaze. ," and "Arabesque arabesque (ărəbĕsk`) [Fr.,=Arabian], in art, term applied to any complex, linear decoration based on flowing lines. In Islamic art it was often exploited to cover entire surfaces. I." There are other collections of equal distinction but none, I think, of surpassing quality. Trivia note: What was the name of Chico Marx's piano-playing character in Duck Soup? Chicolini. Knew you'd want to know. |
