Yet in the score of social settings I have shared with Linda over these years, despite having ample opportunity to do so, Linda never once raised an airline issue with me. My experience with Linda during her tenure at the FAA was a somewhat different matter, however. There I called upon her and the FAA to place online critical information about significant safety violations by the airlines so consumers could factor this information into their decisions. Previously, only portions of this information could be obtained, and only then by filing a Freedom of Information Act request. While the industry did not favor my proposal, Linda sided with consumers and made airline safety violations publicly available online. To this day, people stop me to tell me how useful they find her significant consumer reform. RON WYDEN U.S. Senator |
