Should I buy special diabetic chocolate and biscuits so I can have the occasional treat? AS a type 2 diabetic you don't have to avoid all sweet things - you can have small amounts. I'd suggest saving your sweet treat for after a meal. Your body can cope much better with something sweet when your stomach's full because sugar absorption is slowed down by the food already in there. I wouldn't advise special diabetic products such as chocolate and biscuits. They're expensive and often contain a sugar substitute that can give you loose stools - and you don't need another problem. The best sweet food is fresh fruit. Fruit sugar is natural and the fruit gives you fibre, vitamins and minerals.
