WHAT: A press launch announcing the unprecedented opening of two
major arts buildings in one year. A preview of the newly renovated
Glorya Kaufman Hall (GKH) with architect Buzz Yudell of Moore Ruble
Yudell Architects & Planners. GKH, whose technical and performance
space renovations will place it at the top of the most cutting edge
design concepts of its kind in the United States. Dean Waterman will
announce programming titled "UCLA Year of the Arts," a series of
events including exhibitions, concerts and symposia organized by its
outstanding arts leaders. Curator tours of the exhibition, "Botanica
Los Angeles: Latino Popular Religious Art in the City of Angels."

BACKGROUND: The Year of the Arts celebrates UCLA's position as the
University of California's flagship campus for the arts, and as a
leading arts and cultural center of the West. During the year, two
major arts facilities will open on campus: newly renovated Glorya
Kaufman Hall with state-of-the-art facilities for dance, videography
and cross-cultural investigation in the arts, and the Edythe L. and
Eli Broad Center, designed by Richard Meier & Partners Architects,
which will feature a monumental sculpture by Richard Serra.
