Dean & DeLuca Announces International Expansion With Plans to Launch Flagship Tokyo Store; Flagship International Dean & DeLuca Store Scheduled to Open in 2003.

TOKYO & NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 2002

Dean & DeLuca today announced plans to expand into the international market by signing an exclusive Licensing and Distribution Agreement with ITOCHU Corporation of Japan.

The Agreement, which will bring Dean & DeLuca specialty stores and cafes as well as Dean & DeLuca branded products into Japan, was announced today by Dean & DeLuca President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Dane J. Neller. The creation of Dean & DeLuca Japan Co., Ltd., which will oversee plans to open the flagship Dean & DeLuca store in Tokyo in 2003, was made possible through a joint venture between Dean & DeLuca and ITOCHU Corporation, and marks Dean & DeLuca's first specialty market outside America.

"It caps off nearly a quarter century of growth, which has included our expansion into thirteen store locations in select markets across America, as well as the launch of our international catalogue and e-commerce businesses. As part of the exclusive License and Distribution Agreement with Dean & DeLuca Inc., ITOCHU Corporation plans to start a new category of food business consisting of high-end specialty foods and fashion through its joint venture, Dean & DeLuca Japan Co., Ltd. The Japan-based ownership of Dean & DeLuca Japan Company Ltd. consists of ITOCHU Corporation; Mr. Yokokawa, chairman of Skylark skylark, common name for a passerine songbird (Alauda arvensis) famous for the soaring, melodious flight of the courting male.
