Dealing with insurance companies.


To the Editor:

Just wanted to write and say that it was excellent to see an article on appealing insurance decisions ("Appealing Insurance Rejections" April '01, p. 67). I would like to recommend this be a regular section of your magazine. This could be a valuable reference for parents who are now experiencing these types of rejection issues. I spend so much time writing letters and resubmitting documentation to early intervention ear·ly intervention

 assessments and devices because they are initially viewed as educational, and they are usually quite expensive. My daughter is only 30 months old and augmentative devices have been my biggest challenge since she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy cerebral palsy (sərē`brəl pôl`zē), disability caused by brain damage before or during birth or in the first years, resulting in a loss of voluntary muscular control and coordination. . I am still in the process of requesting such a device and would think that example letters posted in your magazine could help so many parents as well as the children who need the devices.
