The grant amounts will be based on the number and severity of the applications received by the deadline.

Alabama Farmers Federation President Jerry A. Newby said county Federations, individual members and Alfa Insurance Company contributed about $200,000 to the Hurricane Ag Relief Fund established through the American Farm Bureau Federation The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to promoting, protecting, and representing the interests of U.S. farmers. More than five million members in 50 states and Puerto Rico belong to the AFBF, making it the largest U.S.  (AFBF AFBF American Farm Bureau Federation (Farm Bureau) ) to assist farmers.

Funds set aside for Alabama will be distributed through the Federation based on a one-page application available in Alfa Insurance service centers statewide or online at www.alfafarmers.org. Only producers in counties eligible for federal assistance based on a presidential disaster declaration are eligible for consideration. Because the Hurricane Ag Relief Fund was set up specifically to help farmers, applicants are required to provide their Farm Service Agency farm number or their farmowners' insurance policy number.

"This money is meant to help farmers with expenses not covered not covered Health care adjective Referring to a procedure, test or other health service to which a policy holder or insurance beneficiary is not entitled under the terms of the policy or payment system–eg, Medicare. "Therefore, we are asking that applicants estimate their total hurricane-related loss as well as the net amount that will not be reimbursed by insurance or government programs."

A committee of county Federation presidents will review the applications. Checks to those approved for a grant are expected to be mailed by the end of December.
