Deadheads Go Mobile, Go Animated; Summus Brings Wallpaper and Video Screen Savers to Grateful Dead Fans.
Unique to this collaboration is the availability of more than a dozen video screen savers that were selectively edited from the newly restored and recently re-released DVD The Grateful Dead Movie. For the first time in the music industry, users will have the ability to select and download a video clip from the Grateful Dead Movie and save it as a phone screensaver. Taken from the film's opening eight minutes of Gary Gutierrez's masterful and psychedelic animation, The Grateful Dead screen savers are the ultimate in phone personalization.
"We're excited to partner with Summus to bring this extensive collection of icons and animation to Deadheads as high quality images on their phone handset display," said Tom Stack, vice president of licensing and merchandising, Grateful Dead Productions. "Grateful Dead has always been at the forefront of musical and technological innovation, and our venture into this groundbreaking and expanding technology is consistent with our 40-year history. We eagerly anticipate its success."
Last March, Summus launched another personalization product line, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit portfolio. Today, with its tremendous performance of more than 1.2 million downloads to date, it continues to outpace other wallpaper and screensaver products. The Grateful Dead icon and animation collection is projected to enjoy the same success.
"Known as visionaries, The Grateful Dead has always made its music and artwork available to fans," said Gary Ban, CEO of Summus. "We are excited to partner with them on this new frontier of phone personalization."
According to Enpocket's Mobile Media Monitor, graphics - including wallpaper, icons and logos - has grown 57 percent -- to 11 million active adults since 2003, and analysts continue to confirm that the non-voice services are playing an increasingly larger role in the wireless industry. Merrill Lynch predicts that the global mobile phone content marketplace -- which includes wallpaper--will reach $25 billion by year end 2005.
