A British soldier killed in Afghanistan on Sunday has been named as Rifleman Andrew Ian Fentiman.

The 23-year-old was killed while on a foot patrol near Sangin in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, at the weekend.

The Territorial Army soldier from Cambridgeshire died after volunteering to serve in the war-torn country to follow his dream of becoming an officer in the regular military.

 on hold to deploy to Afghanistan as part of the 3 Rifles Battle Group.

Lieutenant Colonel Nick Kitson said: "It was an honour Honour or honor (see spelling differences), is the evaluation of a person’s trustworthiness and social status based on that individual's espousals and actions.  and a great act of commitment that he chose to accompany us and share the burden. A real ambassador for the great British public that supports us so well, he was up for the challenge and gave of himself selflessly."

Rifleman Fentiman leaves behind his parents, a brother and a sister.
