DeVry Inc. Names Thomas C. Shepherd President of Ross University.

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- Thomas C. Shepherd, DHA, has been named president of Ross University and executive vice president of DeVry Inc. (NYSE: DV). Ross University, a division of DeVry Inc., is one of the world's largest providers of medical and veterinary education.

Dr. Shepherd has spent more than 30 years in healthcare administration and management and has established a reputation for leading organizations to record levels of performance and success. Shepherd's expertise includes the areas of hospital management, healthcare reform, strategic management and development, and healthcare education.

For four years, Dr. Shepherd has served as president of Bastyr University, a Kenmore, Wash.-based university with multiple offerings in healthcare education. He also co-founded Royale Healthcare, Inc., a hospital management company in West Jefferson, N.C., to provide hospitals and health systems throughout the United States with management and consulting services. He has served in senior management roles for a variety of hospitals and healthcare facilities, including Hallmark Healthcare (now Community Health Systems), American Healthcorp, Inc. and HCA Healthcare in Tennessee and Alabama.

Dr. Shepherd received a bachelor's degree in business administration cum laude from Fairleigh-Dickinson University, a master's degree in hospital administration from George Washington University, and a doctor of health administration from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Shepherd is currently a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a former board member of the Collaboration for Healthcare Renewal Foundation (CHRF).

Ross University offers doctor of medicine and doctor of veterinary medicine degree programs. Founded in 1978, Ross University School of Medicine is located in the Caribbean country of Dominica. Since 2002, more Ross graduates have obtained first-year residency positions in the United States than any other medical school.
