Business and law specialty program rankings are based on ratings provided by educators at peer institutions. To determine the overall law school rankings, U.S. News surveyed the nation's 184 law schools that are accredited by the American Bar Association American Bar Association (ABA), voluntary organization of lawyers admitted to the bar of any state. Founded (1878) largely through the efforts of the Connecticut Bar Association, it is devoted to improving the administration of justice, seeking uniformity of law  and rated them based on a weighted average of 12 measures. Also included in the calculations were the results of two surveys sent to law deans and selected faculty members from each school asking them to rate other law schools.

In addition to the guidebook, selected rankings will appear in the April 9 issue of U.S.News & World Report magazine on the usnews.com Premium Online Edition
