DeFazio captures repeat race.

Byline: Diane Dietz The Register-Guard

Rep. Peter DeFazio Peter Anthony DeFazio (born May 27, 1947) is an American politician. He serves as a Democratic U.S. Representative from Oregon, representing the 4th Congressional District and is currently serving his 11th term.  rode the Democratic wave to his 10th term in Congress late Tuesday, while his Roseburg-based GOP challenger, Jim Feldkamp Jim Feldkamp is an American conservative politician. A Republican, he was a candidate for the United States House of Representatives in Oregon's 4th congressional district in 2004 and 2006. Both times, Feldkamp was defeated by long-term incumbent Peter DeFazio. , was headed for his second-ever electoral disappointment.

At 64 percent to 36 percent, DeFazio's winning margin had widened slightly from his win over Feldkamp in 2004, which finished at 61 percent to 38 percent.

Now, DeFazio will take a seat in the House majority for the first time in a dozen years. He'll likely be at the helm of the surface transportation subcommittee - and will be in a whirl of legislative initiatives. They include reforming the ethics rules, reducing the power of lobbyists, making higher education higher education

more affordable and adopting a national minimum wage, DeFazio said.

"The list is very long. We're not talking about two years, we're talking about changing direction in the first 100 hours," he said.

Feldkamp, a Navy flier and ex-FBI agent, however, has given the veteran congressman a run for his money. If DeFazio spends all the cash that was in his coffers at mid-October, he will have increased his spending by 40 percent during the last two election cycles, figures supplied by the Center for Responsive Politics "The Center for Responsive Politics is a non-partisan, non-profit research group based in Washington, D.C. that tracks money in politics, and the effect of money on elections and public policy.  show.

Feldkamp wasn't ready to concede defeat Tuesday night or say whether he would challenge DeFazio a third time. "I always told everybody I don't have a Plan B when I wake up tomorrow morning," Feldkamp said.

But DeFazio said his margin was decisive.

All the incumbents but Hooley had won roughly two-thirds of the votes that had been counted in their districts just before 9:30 p.m. Hooley had about 55 percent of the vote.
