De Beers LV signs lease for New York Fifth Avenue retail location.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 23, 2002

De Beers LV are pleased to announce they have signed a lease with Starwood Hotels and Resorts, for a 7,500 square foot retail store in the fashionable St. Regis (REmote Graphics InStruction) A graphics language from Digital used on graphics terminals and first introduced on the PDP-11.  Hotel at 701-703 Fifth Avenue at the south east corner of 55th Street.

The signing of this lease for occupation during 2004, enables the company to build on the learning from its first store in London London, city, Canada
London, city (1991 pop. 303,165), SE Ont., Canada, on the Thames River. The site was chosen in 1792 by Governor Simcoe to be the capital of Upper Canada, but York was made capital instead. London was settled in 1826.
, due to open towards the end of 2002, in London's prime shopping district, on Old Bond Street. It follows the company's stated strategy of securing prestigious sites in the major luxury locations throughout the world.

De Beers LV was established in 2001 as an independently managed and operated company by De Beers SA, the world's premier diamond mining and marketing company, and LVMH LVMH Moët Hennessy-Louis Vuitton (upscale retailer)  Moet Hennessy Hennessy is one of the oldest and most famous manufacturers of cognac, a type of French distilled wine, or brandy. The company was born when the Irishman Richard Hennessy, who had been a mercenary for the French king, was compensated with land in the town of Cognac in France in  - Louis Vuitton The Louis Vuitton Company (more commonly known simply as Louis Vuitton) is a luxury French fashion and leather goods brand and company, headquartered in Paris, France. It is a division of the French holding company, LVMH Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy S.A. , the world's leading luxury goods company.

As part of this venture agreement, De Beers SA has transferred to De Beers LV the world-wide rights to use the De Beers brand name for the sale of luxury goods in consumer markets. The company will design, manufacture and sell premium diamond jewellery in its own retail stores under the De Beers brand name.
