De Anza College Parking Structure Bid $2.7 Million Under Budget Due to Highly Efficient Parking Design.Business Editors CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 3, 2003 De Anza College De Anza College is a 112-acre (453,000 m²) community college located in Cupertino, California. It was founded in 1967 on the site of the Beaulieu Winery and is named after the Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza (who passed through the area in 1776). selected International Parking Design (IPD IPD Institut für Programmstrukturen und Datenorganisation IPD Investment Property Databank (UK) IPD Integrated Product Development IPD Intellectual Property Department IPD Invasive Pneumococcal Disease IPD Implicit Price Deflator ) as Design Architect and Architect of Record, and Frame Design Group (FDG FDG Fluorodeoxyglucose FDG Fundação de Desenvolvimento Gerencial FDG Franchise Development Group FDG Function Dependence Graph FDG Fraud Detection Group FDG Functional Dependency Gate FDG Front des Gaulois FDG Falling Down Giggling ), the structural engineering division of IPD as Engineer of Record, to design a new parking structure for 1,151 spaces, due to open in 2004. The De Anza College Parking Structure bid approximately $2.7 million under budget due in part to the high efficiency of the parking design in terms of area per parking space. The existing 975-space Lot C parking lot at De Anza College underwent design improvements to increase overall parking to 1,831 spaces. The new configuration consists of surface parking as well as a new 1,151-space, three level parking structure. The new facility will serve faculty, staff, students and off-site visitors to campus events. Its cost per space is very competitive with high efficiency as well as a cost effective structural system with strong but efficient architectural design This article or section may contain original research or unverified claims. De Anza College campus buildings have the common thread of a Mediterranean influence using Spanish tiled roofs, arched portal forms, and heavy plaster elements. The resulting facade treatment, envisioned by Al Diaz, AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture , IPD's Director of Architectural Design, was intended to draw from this Spanish styling to complement the balance of the campus. The corners of the building are developed to visually anchor the structure with heavy plaster wall and column elements, arched openings, and latticework infill. Trellises bounded by heavy plaster columns are placed along each side of the building to help offset the long horizontal facade. When planted, the trellises will add color and the soft vibrance of flowering vines to the setting. Inset tile accents further express the Spanish influence.
