WHEN it comes to organising a great day, there are three Scottish favourites that are hard to beat: Highland games Highland Games

Athletic games originating in the Scottish Highlands and now held there and in various parts of the world, usually under the auspices of a local Caledonian society.
, castles and the great outdoors.

Highland Games, which take place throughout the country over the summer months, are a unique mix of sport and culture.

The "heavy events", such as tug-of-war, hammer throw and most impressive structures, while other less grand examples provide a stark insight into darker times.

Scotland is also the perfect place to embrace the great outdoors.

You could visit the Cairngorms National Park The Cairngorms National Park (Scottish Gaelic Pàirc Nàiseanta a'Mhoinhaid Ruaidh) is a national park in north east Scotland, established in 2003. It covers the Cairngorms range of mountains, and some surrounding hills. , tackle one of the countless scenic walks, or take a trip on some of the most picturesque railway routes imaginable.
