Dayna's new BlueStreak product line provides only complete stand-alone Fast Ethernet solution for Macintosh market; BlueStreak family to include stand-alone PCI and NuBus NICs, hubs, and bridges.

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 1995--Dayna Communications Inc. announced Monday the first complete stand-alone Fast Ethernet An earlier name for 100Mbps Ethernet. See 100Base-T.

solution for the Macintosh market with its new BlueStreak 10/100 product line.

With the announcement, Dayna becomes the only company to provide Macintosh users requiring high-performance networking, such as those in the pre-press, graphic design, CAD/CAM CAD/CAM

The new BlueStreak family includes a 10/100 NuBus network interface card, a PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

The earlier 10Base5 and 10Base2 Ethernets are bus networks, but are often wired into a star configuration using a central hub for improved , and a 10/100 bridge. The new BlueStreak Fast Ethernet products will give users the flexibility they need to set up a Fast Ethernet network while remaining connected to their existing 10 Mbps products. All BlueStreak Fast Ethernet products support the 100BASE-TX standard, running on two-pair Category five cable.

, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Dayna. "Being able to purchase a new technology from one company rather than having to buy a piece-meal solution from multiple vendors will give network users the confidence they need to upgrade their existing 10 Mbps network.

"We believe it's important to provide users with the flexibility necessary to make changes in their network; offering a complete stand-alone solution is the best way to assist them in those changes."

BlueStreak 10/100 NuBus and PCI Cards

The BlueStreak 10/100 NuBus and PCI Cards provide Fast Ethernet networking to both the large installed base of NuBus Macintosh computers and to users of the newly introduced PCI Macs. Supporting the NWay(TM) standard, both cards can auto negotiate To automatically recognize the current condition and adjust settings accordingly. The term is often used with communications and networking, in which line speeds from both sides of the transmission are sensed, and the highest-speed that can be accommodated is chosen.  between 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps speeds, offering a seamless upgrade to 100 Mbps performance so that users can migrate to industry-standard high-performance networking at their convenience.

Both BlueStreak 10/100 cards have one RJ-45 jack for operation with two-pair category five cables, and provide LED diagnostics for link status, activity, speed, and full duplex (Computers) arranged so that the information may be transmitted in both directions simultaneously; - of communications channels between computers; contrasted with half duplex(a).  mode. Both the BlueStreak 10/100 NuBus and PCI card will begin shipping in August and have a street price of $325 and $225, respectively. Both cards will ship with all necessary BlueStreak drivers and a full lifetime warranty.

BlueStreak 100BASE-TX Hub

The BlueStreak 100BASE-TX Hub is an unmanaged 12-port hub that offers connections on two-pair Category five cable. The BlueStreak hub is ideal for connecting both Macintosh and PC's together, and with its uplink feature, allows two hubs to be connected together, making it ideal for workgroup and departmental networks. The BlueStreak 100BASE-TX is rack mountable and includes LEDs for link status, auto-partition, collision, and uplink status. It will be available in August, along with the BlueStreak PCI and NuBus cards, and have a street price of $1,799.

BlueStreak 10/100 Bridge

Dayna's BlueStreak 10/100 Bridge is currently the only stand-alone solution available for users who need to connect a Fast Ethernet segment to a 10 Mbps network. The new bridge allows for maximum flexibility in network layout, providing Fast Ethernet users with access to printing, electronic mail, applications, and other services on their existing 10 Mbps Ethernet LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. .

This two-port bridge supports multiple addresses on both the 10 Mbps and the 100 Mbps ports, and provides source address filtering for decreased network traffic. The BlueStreak 10/100 Bridge includes auto configuration at startup, link status and error detection LEDs, and supports BNC (hardware) BNC - A connector for coaxial cable such as that used for some video connections and RG58 "cheapernet" connections. , and RJ-45 connections on the 10 Mbps port.

The BlueStreak 10/100 Bridge will be available in November; street pricing has not yet been determined.
