Hitachi Innovative Solutions Corporation (HISC), a platform-independent IT solutions provider, and Daylight Software, Inc., the technology leader in developing sales and catering solutions for the hospitality industry, have teamed up to introduce an enterprise application for the hospitality industry. Together, the two companies have developed the first non-proprietary, Open Travel Alliance (OTA (Over The Air) Refers to any wireless system such as AM/FM radio and network television that uses open space as its transmission medium. )-based, two-way Web messaging system that allows meeting planners and hotel sales managers to streamline the group booking process.

The co-developed messaging system uses a non-proprietary, industry-wide specification, the draft 2001B Open Travel Alliance (OTA) Meeting Profile. This is a powerful new specification will allow all hotel systems to exchange group meeting data of any kind. The two companies will demonstrate this technology at the Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Tradeshow (HITEC HITEC Highway Innovative Technology Evaluation Center ) held in Orlando, Fla. June 26-28 at Daylight's booth, No. 633 and in HISC's booth, No. 1190.

"The real proof point of HISC's engineered integration with the Daylight system is its ability to get individual properties and hotels the information they need quickly and efficiently," said Ellen Manetti, HISC's senior vice president of the North Atlantic region. "This is a real win for hotels and properties because, by responding to RFPs promptly, they increase the likelihood of winning business over companies relying on traditional means of communication."

Today, the hospitality industry relies on various means of communication, such as faxes, e-mails and phone calls, to relay information when booking event venues among different companies. Despite the industry's significant e-commerce capabilities, the failure of companies' systems to communicate with each other has hindered electronic data exchange, resulting in slow response times when hotels book events.

For the first time, hotels can now receive leads from sales managers and event coordinators using the new messaging system, directed seamlessly from a Web-based meeting planning or sales automation Sales Automation - Sales Force Automation  systems into their Daylight enterprise sales and catering system. Hotels can review the information and quickly respond to the originator of the lead. The HISC/Daylight messaging system handles the whole interaction in the background. In addition, the messaging system allows sales managers to remotely check availability on the hotel's property management system using any handheld wireless device. Then they can send a lead or even book the business.

HISC and Daylight worked closely together to design the new system. Drawing on extensive experience integrating legacy systems and emerging technologies to create industry-specific solutions, HISC engineers designed a meeting planning RFP (Request For Proposal) A document that invites a vendor to submit a bid for hardware, software and/or services. It may provide a general or very detailed specification of the system.

system specifically for the HITEC demonstration to demonstrate their ability to interface functionality with any organization's legacy computer systems and/or meeting planning applications.

Daylight drew on its technology for sharing sales and catering data among multiple systems. The Daylight enterprise sales and catering system is unique in its ability to manage a two-way exchange of any Daylight data with any other Daylight or third party system. The company used its Daylight Interface Server, which manages two-way interfaces between Daylight and a number of third party systems, including many property management systems.

"Daylight feels that this kind of data exchange between sales managers and customers is the future of the hotel industry. We wanted to demonstrate the power of Open Travel Alliance's 2001B Meeting Profile specification, which can be deployed quickly in a wide variety of uses," said Bill Duncan, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Daylight Software. With Daylight Interface Server, Daylight customers are now able to do business on the road and in the office more efficiently than before."
